Action expresses Priorities
We are all very busy in this 24/7 business landscape and it's tough to fit everything we want to do into our days, right?
Tim Ferriss has a best selling book The 4 Hour Work Week, which turned into a billion dollar industry for him based on his unique theory that we can work less and have the life we want. Tim build his empire on the belief and the proof we can do it: living a life of the NR (New Rich) is having the freedom of choice in our personal and professional lives now- rather than waiting 50 years until we retire. Chose to focus on what you do really well and hire out the rest.
Have less on your plate, work more effectively and be focused and disciplined about how you choose to spend your time. Or, as he loves to say "outsource, outsource, outsource.". Whatever you are not really good at, whatever you are doing that is NOT directly producing revenue for your career or business, Tim says to hire it out. There are people all over the world who are cheaper, faster, more effective than you at almost everything exceptthe one thing that you arereally good at! That is what you are supposed to be spending your time on at work.
As for at home- Tim's philosophy for inventing the 4 hour work week allows him to live like he has millions of dollars right now, rather than simply dreaming about retirement at 70 years old. His philosophy is that we need to focus on activities that we love to do, bring us joy and re invigorate us when we aren't working. When we are working- we are to be only spending time on activities that play to our strengths- only activities we can do.
If you are troubled by how to figure this out- and many people are. Ask yourself what your priorities are for your career or your business. Then ask yourself what your priorities are in your personal life. Does your calendar and your checkbook reflect the person you want to be right now? Does your calendar and checkbook align with what you tell yourself are priorities in your personal and professional life? If they don't align, chances are you are not happy about it. You can change that. It takes discipline and focus.
We feel good when we spend our time, energy and money on things we feel are important to us. We want to spend our time, energy and money on activities that reflect our priorities. When we do that, we feel productive and effective, which in turn, makes us feel smart or wise. It's a good to reflect on your day, or your week (before it turns into months and years) and ask yourself if your activities reflect your priorities.
Remember, you have the choice to decide how you spend your time, energy AND money. You just have to be very disciplined about making it happen. It can be done. Gandhi says Action expresses Priorities. I say, our actions reflect our priorities.
