I Love the Amy Cuddy TED Talk
I love the Amy Cuddy TED Talk! I have referred to Amy's brilliant discovery many times in my public speaking events, to corporate crowds and to private clients. Her advice on "power posing" works! Amy is a social psychologist and Harvard professor who has proven scientifically that if you stand like Wonder Woman (one of her power poses she used in her studies) for only TWO minutes before a high stakes situation (professionally or socially), you will increase your confidence by 20% AND reduce your anxiety by a whopping 25%!
I have done these poses myself for 2 minutes in a stairwell before a big presentation, a bathroom stall before negotiating a new contract and in the privacy of my own office before I make a big phone call to pitch an idea. It works! I love the Amy Cuddy TED Talk because she cries when she tells you her powerful story and you know she wants the world to know what she discovered. She and I firmly believe that you CAN change the outcome of your negotiations and your presentations by how you use your body language. When you are confident and strong in a social interaction, people notice and take you seriously. Fake it until you BECOME it is her mantra, not Fake it until you make it. She wants you to believe in yourself and have the confidence to represent yourself strongly and confidently in any situation. Please try it just once and you will see what Amy means. That's why I love the Amy Cuddy TED Talk.
